Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 18, 2026 ย ยทย  Effective immediately

TL;DR โ€” The Short Version

  • โœ“We collect zero data. No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reports.
  • โœ“No servers. Your messages never touch the internet or any server we own.
  • โœ“No accounts. No registration, no email, no phone number required.
  • โœ“Everything stays on your device, encrypted with AES-256.

1. Who We Are

IRIS Nearby is an offline peer-to-peer messaging application developed by Dhevenddra. The app enables communication between nearby devices using Bluetooth and WiFi Direct โ€” entirely without internet connectivity. You can reach us at dhevenddra@gmail.com.

2. Information We Collect

We collect nothing. IRIS Nearby does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information. Specifically:

  • โœ—No messages or message content
  • โœ—No contact lists or phone numbers
  • โœ—No location data
  • โœ—No device identifiers sent to any server
  • โœ—No usage analytics or crash reports
  • โœ—No advertising identifiers
  • โœ—No biometric data

3. How the App Works (Technically)

IRIS Nearby uses Google's Nearby Connections API, which operates over Bluetooth and WiFi Direct. All communication is direct device-to-device (P2P). No data passes through any intermediate server โ€” not ours, not Google's.

Local storage: Your messages, contacts, and settings are stored locally on your device using Hive, encrypted with AES-256. The encryption key is stored in your device's secure hardware keystore (Android Keystore).

Device name: You choose a display name during onboarding. This name is broadcast over Bluetooth to nearby devices running IRIS Nearby. It is never sent to any server.

Unique device ID: A random UUID is generated locally on first launch to identify your device to nearby peers. This ID is never transmitted to any server.

4. Permissions We Request

The app requests the following Android permissions, all of which are used solely for local device functionality:

Bluetooth & Nearby Devices

Required to discover and connect to nearby devices running IRIS Nearby.

WiFi

Used for WiFi Direct connections for higher-bandwidth transfers (images, voice).

Microphone

Required only when you record a voice message. We never record without your explicit action.

Notifications

To show you a local notification when a message arrives. No push notification servers are used.

5. Third-Party Services

IRIS Nearby uses the following third-party libraries. None of these collect or transmit your personal data:

  • Google Nearby Connections API โ€” P2P transport layer. Operates locally; no data sent to Google servers.
  • Hive โ€” Local encrypted database. Open source, no network calls.
  • just_audio / record โ€” Audio playback and recording. No network calls.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

All data (messages, contacts, settings) is stored exclusively on your device. You can delete all data at any time via Settings โ†’ Clear All Chats. Uninstalling the app removes all associated data from your device. We have no copies of your data and cannot recover it.

7. Children's Privacy

IRIS Nearby does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since we collect no data at all, the app is safe for all ages from a data privacy perspective.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and notify users via an in-app notice. Our commitment to zero data collection will never change.
